Port Clements mayor Cory Delves says Enbridge Inc. has one more chance to talk to the village about its pipeline proposal before council decides whether to join an all-islands coalition opposing the project.Port invited Enbridge to come to the islands a few months ago, after hearing from the local Enbridge Awareness Group. That group asked Port to oppose the project, which would build a pipeline from Alberta to Kitimat, allowing tar sands oil to be shipped from the north coast to new markets in fuel-hungry China.So far, the Council of the Haida Nation, the villages of Masset and Queen Charlotte, the Moresby Island Management Committee, the Old Massett and Skidegate band councils and the Tow Hill Management Committee are all opposed to the pipeline, mainly due to the risk of an oil spill.Port held out making a decision, with Mr. Delves saying the village wanted to hear both sides of the issue before taking a stand.At Monday night's council meeting (June 7), Mr. Delves said that while Enbridge was initially confident about an islands visit, the village hasn't heard anything lately about a possible date. He said he will make one last attempt to contact the company, but that council will make a decision on the issue, based on the available information, in time for the June 24 protocol meeting.
