Faster data, slower traffic

Expect continued minor traffic delays this summer as Telus installs 34 kilometres of new fibre optic cable along the highway between Queen Charlotte and Port Clements.Telus spokesperson Shawn Hall said the cable upgrade could mean faster internet service, but telephone customers probably won't notice much difference. The new fibre optic cable replaces old cable which wasn't yet worn out, but which has been deteriorating, he said. It's a significant project, costing Telus around $900,000. Most of the work will be done this summer, and the whole job should be complete by the end of the year.
