Ferry taffic up in August

After taking a dip in July, traffic on the Prince Rupert-Skidegate ferry route bobbed back up in August.According to the latest statistics from BC Ferries, vehicle traffic jumped 9 percent on the Northern Adventure this August compared to August 2012, and passenger traffic was up more than 3 percent.A total of 2,482 cars and trucks made the Hecate Strait crossing in the past month, compared to 2,273 in August 2012. The number of passengers reached 7,105, compared to 6,867 the previous year.So far this year, traffic on the Prince Rupert-Skidegate route is up about 5 percent.Traffic numbers were even better on the Kwuna. The number of passengers travelling between Skidegate and Alliford Bay reached 12,205 this August, up more than 11 percent from the 10,949 who travelled in August 2012. Vehicle traffic rose 10 percent to 5,089, up from 4,621.
