Fewer sailings as Kwuna goes to refit

There will be fewer sailings between Skidegate and Alliford Bay this fall, as the Kwuna heads off for a major refit.BC Ferries announced this week that it will be replacing the Kwuna with a tug-and-barge service from Sept. 15 until Dec. 15. The modified schedule has 12 sailings a day, with service starting at 7 am and the last sailing leaving Skidegate at 8 pm.The tug and barge will be provided by Wainwright Marine Services.There will be dangerous cargo sailings on Thursdays, leaving Alliford Bay at 1:15 pm and 5:30 pm, and leaving Skidegate at 9:30 am and 1:45 pm. Passage on these sailings must be booked in advance, and no other passengers can board these sailings.BC Ferries said the Kwuna goes for a dry-docking refit every four years, and that this year's refit will include a 3/4 life capital upgrade to meet regulatory requirements.
