Fisherman falls in, swims to shore

The Northern Adventure's departure from Skidegate Landing was delayed briefly Friday night (June 17) after the ferry was called to help rescue a man who had fallen off a fish boat in the area.BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall said the Coast Guard called the Northern Adventure at 11:04 pm, saying there was a man overboard in Skidegate Inlet, about 2.5 miles away. The ferry responded right away, but eight minutes later the Coast Guard called and said the man had managed to swim to shore. The Northern Adventure then departed for Prince Rupert, only a few minutes off its scheduled departure time of 11 pm."If we are in the area and we can help, we are happy to," Ms Marshall said.
