Former islander back with band

Reuben Wier & The Red Hot Swingset are to perform at the Heritage Centre Friday August 23. Performing here for the first time, this trio will wow you with their special blend of hot jazz! Lost somewhere between a warm summer rain and an after hour speakeasy, they play old time swing, manouche, viper jazz, musette, and heart breaking ballads. The band features exciting arrangements, exuberant vocals, and lovely improvisations.Reuben Wier (Marc Atkinson Trio) on vocals and guitar, Clark Brendon (Big Band Trio) on the upright bass, and Stuart Munro (Sunyata) on guitar. Born in Queen Charlotte and raised in Rose Harbour, Reuben Wier is based in Victoria. He complements his fiery, unpretentious guitar playing with husky smooth-as-honey vocals. With influences ranging from swing to soul, gospel to manouche, blues to jazz, he has captivated audiences around the world. Reuben is known for his complex but accessible improvisations, driving rhythms and a nostalgic dreamy aesthetic. He has toured internationally with the critically-acclaimed Marc Atkinson Trio, led the Montreal-based Griffintown Hotclub and played with The Ambassadors and FNK Orchestra.Currently, he plays with Reuben Wier & the Red Hot Swing Set, The Capital City Syncopators, and Brishen.
