Faust Figuero, who taught in Masset between 1998 and 2000, is on a hunger strike to improve aboriginal education in the province. He started the strike late last month and says "I trust that whether I survive this ordeal or not, truth will reveal itself and assuredly just persons, knowing such truth, will eventually find the resolve and courage to act with integrity".
He's calling for the implementation of a task force to investigate the "intolerable and abhorrent conditions" which prevent delivery of adequate education services to aboriginal people.
Mr. Figuero currently lives on Salt Spring Island.
