Former islander out of federal cabinet

John Duncan resigned from the federal cabinet last week as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. He will be remembered by many islanders as a resident of Port Clements during the 1980s, when he worked for MB and was active in the QCI Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Duncan, MP for Vancouver Island North, was appointed to cabinet in 2010. His most recent official visit to Haida Gwaii was in 2009, when he announced a $2.3 million spending program in Skidegate, much of which was targeted at rodent eradication in Gwaii Haanas.
