Thieves drained the Green Church's heating oil tank dry over the past three months, say the Masset RCMP.The 800-litre tank was filled on Dec. 10, and when it was filled again on Feb. 2, it was completely empty, even though the building is rarely used and one of the heaters is broken. Police think the thief may have used a wrench to bypass the locking mechanism.Retired Reverend Peter Hamel told police, "If they were in need, they could have asked and we would have gladly shared with them."Police are asking anyone with information on the crime to the Masset detachment at 250-626-3991 or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
