Hate those flyers? Read on

Tired of sorting through flyer after flyer looking for your mail? Getting unwanted phone calls or faxes from telemarketers? Annoyed with the waste of resources used in creating junk mail? How about overflowing recycling bins in the post office? If you share these concerns, there are some steps to minimize junk mail and other paper you receive, as well as limiting the telemarketers who call during dinner or fax unwanted solicitations. Two kinds of mail, addressed and unaddressed, can be sent to your mailbox. If you are receiving addressed mail, the Canadian Marketing Association offers a free 'Do Not Contact Service', (available at HYPERLINK "http://www.the-cma.org" www.the-cma.org --click on the do not contact service icon). It's open to everyone and will prevent addressed unwanted flyers from association members from going to post box. It's a simple process that takes 5 minutes and is valid for three years and is then renewable. The same process can be followed for telemarketers at CRTC's website (find it through the CMA address, above) or by calling 1-866-580-3625.?As for unaddressed junk mail, you can ask the post office?to keep all unwanted catalogues and advertising out of your mailbox. ?There are some organizations exempt from the 'Do Not Call' and 'Do Not Contact' lists, such as registered charities and organizations, and businesses you have been in contact with within 6-18 months of registering with the service. For a more complete description of these exemptions contact the CRTC or CMA, or visit their websites
