Health authority says Port nurse will not be replaced

The Observer spoke to Sue Beckermann, the Northern Health Authority's health services administrator, Tuesday afternoon about the Port clinic situation.
Ms Beckermann said the health authority has no plans to hire a nurse to replace Jonna Mattiesing, who was forced to retire at the end of February. Instead, the Port clinic will be staffed part of the time by the public health nurse, other nurses, and other health workers from Masset. The doctors clinic on Mondays will continue.
The health authority is also looking into the idea of mailing prescriptions to Port residents, who can no longer pick them up at the clinic. However, this is not an issue that will be resolved quickly, she warned.
