Homeowner assaulted

Police responded immediately last week to a report of a home invasion in Port Clements in which the homeowner was assaulted.Masset RCMP say the incident took place on Aug. 30 at around 7:20 pm. Their investigation revealed that an adult male forced open the door of a residence and confronted the homeowner over a dispute involving a third party. During the confrontation, the suspect grabbed a crow bar and assaulted the homeowner. He then fled the scene on foot and police were unable to locate him. The homeowner sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention. Alcohol was a factor.The suspect was located in Port Clements on Aug. 31 and was arrested and charges are pending, police said. He was released to appear in court in December.Police encourage residents to use appropriate security measures to protect their property, including locking doors. Their investigation into this matter continues.
