The first hummingbird has arrived on Haida Gwaii. Queen Charlotte resident Doug Aiken called in the Observer's first reported hummingbird sighting of 2013 the morning of March 29.Mr. Aiken said the little bird showed up at his feeder at exactly 11:40 am."It was a Rufous for sure," he said. "It looked like a female."Mr. Aiken said the hummingbirds usually show up earlier than March 29. He's had his feeder out since the beginning of the month because in some years, he's seen them as early as the first week of March.Their late arrival is a mystery, he said, as the first part of the month was relatively mild.
