Infrequent Flyer

Definitely not a frequent flyer to the islands, a Magnificent hummingbird was spotted by Peter Hamel of Masset in Queen Charlotte on Thursday at the Purple Onion Cafe. In fact, the very large hummingbird (5 ½" long) is the first one recorded to have been seen in Canada preferring to stay in the southwestern United States and Central America. Look for an iridescent green throat and a notched tail and a bird that is almost twice as large as the hummingbirds commonly spotted here. Send us an email if you are lucky enough to see it too.
