Islander will not lose job after all

The Ministry of Children and Family Development has changed its mind, and will not lay off an employee on the islands, says Doug Hayman, interim chief executive for the northern BC region.
The team leader position for the islands, working out of the ministry office in Queen Charlotte, had been scheduled to end in a matter of months, but after hearing from islanders over the last few weeks, the ministry has reconsidered. Mr. Hayman says with a Haida child welfare agency due to start up soon, the team leader position is important, and "we had another look at our plans".
The ministry recently announced a total of eleven job cuts across the north, to take effect in April. The one position in Queen Charlotte was the only one on the islands originally scheduled to end.
