Islands featured in tourism campaign

By Allan Moore, work experience student--This year's tourist season on the islands could be busier than normal if Tourism BC has its way, as it has teamed up with BC Ferries in a large advertising campaign.The campaign promotes sailing the inside passage on the new ferry, the Northern Expedition, then visiting several destinations in Northern BC, including Haida Gwaii. Four full-page features in the Vancouver Sun, online ads, TV ads, and coverage on Global TV News and Breakfast Television are all part of the campaign. As well, brochures are being placed in Visitor Info Centres across the province. The promotion runs until the end of May.With all this coverage, it's possible the Islands could become an even more popular tourist destination.The Misty Islands Economic Development Society says it's pleased the islands are participating in the co-op marketing program.
