Jam packed arts events coming your way

Submitted by QCI Arts Council-You may have read in last week's paper that legendary novelists Margaret Atwood and Graeme Gibson will be coming to Haida Gwaii for a joint reading in February and that the QCI Arts Council will be organizing a fundraiser to help raise funds to make the Atwood-Gibson reading a reality for all residents on our islands. Now, mark Sept. 24 on your calendar as you and your family will be in for a treat. The Arts Council will be holding a literary fashion show highlighting fashion from "around the world" followed by a loonie auction at Charlotte community hall. This fashion show will showcase Dolores Davis's collection of beautiful and glamourous costumes. Our all-time favourite local band, Crabapple Creek Jug Band, will perform after the auction for those who wish to take over the dance floor for a little jig. This is a family-oriented event so bring your entire family and friends along. Door opens at 6 pm and our models will catwalk down the runway at 6:30 pm. Desserts and beverages will be on sale. We are still looking for donation of desserts and items for the loonie auction. If you can help bake or have some gifts to donate, please contact Beng at 559-8378. Here is some more literary and musical news. George Bowering, a Governor-General award-winning author, will present two readings at north and south ends. He will read from a variety of his poetic, fiction and non-fiction works on Sept. 18 at Queen B's in Charlotte and Sept. 19 at Trout House on Tow Hill Road. Both readings start at 7:30 pm. What do you get when you combine a wee Irish lass with a honeyed crystalline voice, a dynamic multi-instrumentalist and good cheer? A whopping great time! Come let Mary Murphy's Irish Isle transport you across the Atlantic to a home of traditional, original and contemporary Irish songs. This talented singer will perform on Sept. 25 at Trout House and Oct. 2 in Charlotte. Watch out for more updates on this event.
