Dr. Norm Sloan, a marine biologist at Gwaii Haanas in Skidegate, has won a Coastal America National Spirit Award. Forty others are sharing the award for their collaborative high-tech project inventorying every mile of Alaska’s coast. So far, 45,000 kilometres of the coast have been photographed. The images are useful for several purposes, including helping oil spill responders. The award ceremony will be held in Anchorage on January 19.
