Man charged after fence chopped up

A Masset resident has been charged with mischief in connection with the disappearance of more than a mile barbed wire fence from around the village's cemetery.
The man will appear in court in July.
Kim Mushynsky, the village's chief financial officer, said the fence , 6000 feet long, had been in place for more than a dozen years before it was removed last month, and the village had never received a complaint about it. It will cost just under $2,000 to replace.
The village did receive the old fence back, she added, but it is completely unusable.
"We have six boxes of barbed wire cut into six inch chunks," she said. "If anybody wants it, call us."
