RCMP officers found a Masset woman complaining of stomach pain by the Masset post office on Jan. 4. An officer called the ambulance at around 4:20 pm, says Sergeant Jim Vardy. “She wasn’t looking good,” he said. The woman was taken to hospital and disclosed that she had been assaulted. After an investigation, her male partner was charged with assault and released on conditions that include no contact with his spouse. In other Masset police news, a male was charged with impaired driving on Jan. 6 after he was stopped at a roadside check at 6:34 pm. The officer on duty determined the driver had alcohol on his breath and was given a breathalyzer test. The man failed a roadside screen, says Sgt. Vardy, and was taken back to the station where he blew .130, well above the legal limit of .08. Sgt. Vardy also noted a head-on collision five kilometres north of the Tlell River Bridge. The collision took place Jan. 5 at 12:10 pm during very bad road conditions. Moderate injuries were sustained.
