Man hit by truck

A 45-year-old man from Vancouver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning (Jan. 9) after being hit by a tractor trailer about three kilometers south of Masset.RCMP Sgt. Grant MacDonald said the accident happened just before 7 am, while it was still dark, in an area with no street lights and no sidewalks.Sgt. MacDonald said it appears the man was struck was by a tractor trailer driving south on Highway 16. The victim was taken by ambulance to the Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital.The Masset volunteer fire department helped get the injured man out of the ditch and also helped with traffic control, Sgt. MacDonald said.Police remind people that they should wear clothes with reflective markings if they're out when it's dark so they can be more easily seen by drivers.
