Margie Colcol Bursary available

The Hospital Day Committee is once again announcing a deadline for applications for the Margie Colcol Bursary for 2010. Letters of application for the two $1,000 bursaries need to be postmarked by Friday, June 4, and should be sent to Margie Colcol Bursary Committee, Box 448, Queen Charlotte. Many individuals have made personal commitments to serve the health needs of our island community. Margie Colcol was one such nurse. She served  this community for many years until her premature death from cancer in March, 1999. The Margie Colcol scholarship, named in her memory, honours not only this exceptional nurse but her example that is evident today in the nursing, medical and support staff that serve the Haida Gwaii community. The goal of the Margie Colcol bursary is to provide educational funding for residents of the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii to pursue ongoing education in a health care field with the hope they will return to the islands to practice these acquired health care field skills.Preference will be given to applicants pursuing an ongoing health care field program of study and to those candidates who will most likely return/stay on island, who have been long term residents and/or who have been raised and educated on Haida Gwaii. The bursaries are usually awarded to individuals who have completed their first year of study in a health-care related field of study. Please encourage individuals who are studying in the health care field to apply for this bursary.
