If you want to do business in Masset and are planning to open a pawn shop, forget the idea. Pawn shops are no longer permitted in the community.Masset council passed Bylaw 589 Monday evening, which says "businesses that operate in whole or in part as a pawn shop, pawn broker, pay day loan service or by otherwise offering the service of loaning money against goods or chattels, shall not be permitted within the Village of Masset".After the bylaw was passed, mayor Barry Pages said that council members had been hearing from Masset residents, who didn't like what was going on at the pawn shop, now closed, in the village.
