Masset calls for resignation of Canada Post boss

Masset council is calling for the resignation of Canada Post chief executive Moya Greene, saying she is obviously not interested in providing the expected quality of mail service to the islands. At Monday night's meeting (Jan. 11), council members voted to write a letter to the federal minister responsible for Canada Post, demanding the resignation. The move was suggested by mayor Barry Pages, who said that mail service to the islands has been getting even worse instead of better.Mail service has been slow since Canada Post stopped using Air Canada more than a year ago. All mail now comes and goes by ferry. But Mr. Pages said now that BC Ferries is being more cautious about crossing Hecate Strait, ferry delays have snarled mail delivery even further.Mr. Pages said village councils on the islands have raised the issue continuously, as has MP Nathan Cullen, and there are airlines, such as Pacific Coastal, willing to provide the service."It's really a lack of anyone doing their jobs at senior management at Canada Post," Mr. Pages said. "The minister needs to put someone in charge that will take it seriously."
