Masset council gets a 'thanks'

John Disney of the Healthy Communities Society gave a warm thank you to the village of Masset at Monday night's council meeting (Dec. 14), saying the very successful soup kitchen would not be running without the village's donation of space.Mr. Disney told council members that many residents of both New Masset and Old Massett need the non-judgmental space offered by the soup kitchen, where they can get warm food and access to other services like counselling, if they want them.On Sunday, he said, volunteers prepared a holiday meal at the soup kitchen and 50 people showed up. The society also distributed hats and mitts."We've only been able to move ahead because we have that space and we thought it was about time one of us came here and told you," Mr. Disney said. "We just wanted to thank you because it really means a lot."Masset mayor Barry Pages said he knows that many people have been volunteering at the kitchen, and asked Mr. Disney to pass council's thanks along to all of them.
