Submitted by Kyla Mitchell–Islands’ Food is a group of people concerned about food sustainability. Over the past two years, we have offered various farm and garden tours in Masset, Tlell and Queen Charlotte. The hope is to inspire both new and experienced gardeners and showcase what can be grown on our islands. This Sunday, August 15, Islands’ Food is offering a food garden tour of three Masset and area gardens. The tour is open to all who are interested and will take place rain or shine. We will meet at 10 am at GM Dawson school to take a look at the raised beds and compost boxes built by teacher Dan Schulbeck, and his students. We will finish the tour at Dominic Legault’s home on Sangan Drive. This year, Dominic has increased the size of his garden, planted numerous fruit trees and has two milk goats. If you want to know more about winter gardening, greenhouses or raising poultry come join us. For more info, email Kyla at or call 626-3768.
