Masset council will decide by next month whether or not to hire a customs officer for the upcoming tourism season, says mayor Barry Pages.
Masset has hired an officer at its own expense for the past three summers, but council members are wondering if the expenditure makes sense. They referred the issue to their tourism and airport committees, which came back with different answers.
The tourism committee has recommended that the position be eliminated, while the airport committee has recommended that the position be maintained, but not with taxpayers' money.
"We'll be making a decision, probably at our next meeting," Mr. Pages said Monday (March 24).
