Masset to pass budget this week

Masset council gave second and third readings to this year's budget at a meeting Monday night (May 10), and council members said they would make their final vote on the financial plan at a meeting some time this week.Administrator Trevor Jarvis said he was not sure exactly when the meeting would be held. The budget raises taxes by 2.6 percent overall, and will allow the village to undertake airport improvements, water line replacements and road patching this year. This year's tax rate will be $5.9878 per $1,000 of assessed value for residential properties, and $14.6701 for business properties.Mr. Jarvis said the village did not receive any comments from the public about the budget, which has been available at the village office since the end of April.
