Masset's telethon another huge success

No surprise here - this year's Masset-Haida Lions telethon was another great success, says Lion Bob Brown, just as it has been for the previous 23 years.
The Nov. 29 telethon brought in just under $17,000, Mr. Brown said. The money will go straight to the Lions Easter Seal House in Vancouver, which provides low-priced accommodation for people visiting the city for medical treatment.
All donated items had been auctioned off by midnight Saturday, and volunteers then spent several hours cleaning up the community hall, he said.
Highlights included a few minutes of fast and furious bidding on the hockey jersey donated by the Vancouver Canucks and signed by 25 players, Mr. Brown said. Top bidder was Rollie Wheeler, who took the jersey home after offering $1,700.
Dave Hounsell was the winner of the deluxe computer system which the Lions raffled off.
Mr. Brown said the Lions will have an exact number later in the week for how much money the telethon raised.
