Mayor advises caution on property requests

Queen Charlotte council received two requests regarding village property at its meeting May 6. The first, from Norm Wagner, requested an easement of three metres next to his property on Oceanview Drive near the helicopter pad to allow for parking and the installation of on 10-foot concrete slab for a 1000 pound propane tank. The second request was from Steve Scheer inquiring about the possible purchase of a 6.15 metre strip bordering his property on 5th Avenue, near the Observer office.Mayor Carol Kulesha advised caution on deciding on these issues as each decision sets a precedent and asked that councillors look at the properties in question before coming to a decision.Chief Administrative Officer Peter Weeber expressed concern that both properties were already in trespass on village property and both had done improvements without seeking permission from the village. "We're already dealing with a situation where somebody is accessing their property from our property, so that itself is an issue," he said.Council referred both requests back to staff, "we'll come back to council with a detailed report on the best options and then council will consider those options," said Mr. Weeber.
