MIMC wants official community plan changed

Moresby Island Management Committee members recommended changes to the Moresby Island Official Community Plan to allow the local golf course to be rezoned. The owners of the private golf course would like to rezone their 79 acre property from A-1 to R-1, a change from agricultural to residential.Rezoning the area as residential would allow current or future owners to subdivide the property into 4,000 m2 lots. The current zoning allows for residential lots no less than six hectares. The change to the OCP requires that the regional district board give first and second readings to the new bylaw and then hold a public hearing, before final changes can be made."We have to embrace change," said committee member Emmy O'Gorman at the Oct. 13 meeting. She noted that the golf course land used to be a dairy and the committee should not force someone to keep it as a recreational property by road-blocking the rezoning.
