Miss Teen Haida Gwaii off to compete in Vancouver

Miss Teen Haida Gwaii Leigh-Anna Jones is now in Vancouver, preparing to compete in the Miss Teen BC event Sunday (July 6).
Leigh-Anna and chaperone Cecile Pages flew to Vancouver Tuesday (July 1). They will participate in several rehearsals and pre-event judging sessions before the Sunday evening show.
Leigh-Anna is the only delegate from outside the Lower Mainland, Ms Pages said. She will be competing against eight other delegates for the Miss Teen BC title. If she wins, it's off to Toronto for an all-expenses-paid trip for the Miss Teen Canada pageant in August.
"She's doing awesome," Ms Pages said about 14-year-old Leigh-Anna, who has already travelled to Vancouver to meet the other delegates at a gala dinner last month. "She fits in with all the other girls amazingly."
Ms Pages said that Leigh-Anna's proud parents, Tammy and John T. Jones, and several other relatives will be at the pageant Sunday to form a cheering section. Her father will escort her on the stage during the evening gown section.
Leigh-Anna's evening gown, which she and Ms Pages picked out during their last visit to Vancouver, is teal green satin.
Sunday's pageant will also feature competitions for the titles of Miss Teen Vancouver, Miss BC International, and Miss Vancouver International. You can learn more about the delegates (including Leigh-Anna) and the pageant at www.missbcinternational.com.
The pageant, which will be held at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby, will not be televised, but Ms Pages said a videotape will be made. She and Leigh-Anna will be returning to the islands Monday - unless Miss Teen Haida Gwaii wins the Miss Teen BC title. In that case, they'll be staying on for a couple of days to get organized.
Ms Pages said a special thank you to HawkAir, which donated the flights to Vancouver and back.
