MLA wants answers about paving

North Coast MLA Gary Coons has written to the Ministry of Highways about the cancellation of plans to pave Highway 16 between Port and Masset this year.Highways has been planning to pave the deteriorating road for the last three years, but announced a couple of weeks ago that there was no money in budget for 2009."This road is the only road between these two towns. Its condition is paramount to the safety of many in this area," Mr. Coons wrote, " I would like to be able to tell my constituents something concrete about this issue".He went on to say the stretch of highway is looking "very aged", and said "we are all concerned for the travelling public's safety and hope that there are some answers to these important questions".Mr. Coons wrote to the ministry office in Terrace on February 9.The stretch between Port and Masset was last paved twenty three years ago, in the summer of 1986.
