MP salutes sheriff's bravery

Skeena MP Andy Burton has saluted Prince Rupert Deputy Sheriff Jody Kuntz in the House of Commons, and congratulated her for receiving the Governor-General's Medal of Bravery.
"On December 7, 2000, Mrs. Jody Kuntz of Prince Rupert risked her life trying to prevent a suicidal man from jumping from a small aircraft some 3,000 metres above the Hecate StraitÂ…" Mr. Burton told the house, adding that when the prisoner lunged from his seat and trying to jump from the plane, Mrs. Kuntz tried to restrain him.
"bracing herself against the doorframe, she managed to hold onto the back of the prisoners clothes with one hand. Determined to end his life, the man freed himself from her grip and eventually fell to his death," the MP said.
Mr. Burton says the act was above and beyond the call of duty, and made the remarks in the Commons on December 10.
The medal is awarded for acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances.
