NaiKun not selected in Hydro's latest clean power call

BC Hydro announced Wednesday it had selected a second group of projects in its Clean Power Call.In a press release dated March 31, Hydro says electricity purchase agreements have been awarded to four more companies, two in Squamish, one in Sparwood and one, for wind power, in Port Hardy.The four projects will generate a total of 450 gigawatt hours of electricity annually, enough to supply about 40,000 homes. The four are in addition to 19 others selected earlier in March, which will generate enough power for 260,000 homes.Hydro says it will continue talking with the proponents of eight other proposals and expects to sign more agreements. It did not name any of the eight.".companies that were not successful.could have opportunities in the future with the introduction of the Clean Energy Act as the province develops a strong, sustainable energy industry." said BC Hydro.NaiKun is planning a 396 megawatt offshore wind farm in Hecate Strait. It has an environmental assessment certificate from the province and has to pass federal and Haida assessment processes and a general vote by the Haida Nation. It also needs a contract from BC Hydro.NaiKun has offices in Masset and Skidegate as well as Vancouver.
