New trail is a hit with Port Clements families

Putting aside the political debacle that caused so much dissension, the trail goes very nicely from our house to the park and the museum.

Our family and many others are really enjoying the new trail extension. It is SO nice.

Putting aside the political debacle that caused so much dissension, the trail goes very nicely from our house to the park and then to the museum. We walk it a lot… it is so pleasant to not have to watch for vehicles, etc. The children even ask to go for a walk on it, which is always a good thing.

I am still watching and waiting for the long-promised Internet improvement to kick in along Bayview Drive. It is marginally better sometimes.

Emergency preparedness needs some more people to participate to have a viable plan for our town. The courses are free, and are quarterly. If you wish to see how you can help, ask at the village office. I believe Feb. 18 is the next training day, in the seniors room. Tsunami safe-zone signs will go up on some hydro poles soon to show the way to a safe location, which is part of emergency preparedness.

Acrobatic dance for kindergarten to Grade 4 is on Tuesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. and for Grades 5 to 7 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This session will go until March 7. You must complete a waiver form from the Haida Gwaii Rec Commission to participate, and they are available on the bulletin board in the school. The class is free and includes a snack!

Badminton for all ages is going on in the gym on Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. until March 1. (There is no badminton on Feb. 22 because it is a non-instructional day at school.) Badminton is followed by International Dance on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

The Port Clements Rod and Gun Club is hosting a .22 shoot on Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. in the rifle range.

The Cancer Society Loonie Auction is set for the Feb. 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. This is a social tea and fundraiser put on by the Port Clements Seniors Association in the Multiplex. Please come up with some Loonie Auction items to donate, and get them to the seniors room by 1 p.m. or sooner.

Northern Savings Credit Union will be here on Friday, Feb. 24 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the council chambers.

The Port Clements Clinic is holding a Ladies Night with Dr. Walker and the public health nurse on Feb. 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. You can prebook a PAP by calling 557-4478 or come out for some general education and ask those questions that you may have been wondering about, and enter to win a door prize even!

The cold and flu that has been going on and on is really getting a bit redundant. We are so ready to be done with it all! Come on spring!
