Next week is police week

Masset police will dish up hot dogs to elementary school kids at the north end of the islands to celebrate Police Week May 9-15.
"There is no doubt that strong community ties help to fight and prevent crime," said Sgt. Andrew Isles of the Masset detachment. "We can't expect these relationships to happen on their own. That's why police week is so important to the police and the community."
Police week is a chance for police to learn about community priorities and build a resource base of volunteers to help keep communities safe, said Sgt. Isles.
Police week has been celebrated in Canada since 1970. May 15 is Peace Officer Memorial Day.
