No damage in Sunday quake

An earthquake centered near the southwest tip of Moresby Island shook Haida Gwaii for a few seconds late Sunday night (May 15).According to Natural Resources Canada, the quake measured magnitude 4.5 and occurred at 11 pm. The location was just off the west coast about 100 km south of Queen Charlotte, an area where many earthquakes have been recorded.There were no reports of damage. It was the second strongest quake recorded in Canada so far this year. The biggest of 2011 struck in the Yukon's Selwyn Mountains, at magnitude 4.9.Copyright 2011 Haida Gwaii OBSERVER
