No date yet for Sandspit by-election

It looks like the Moresby Island Management Committee will have to continue functioning with three empty positions for the next while, as the regional district has not yet set a date for a by-election.The regional district voted on Sept. 24 to go ahead with a by-election, despite pleas from the committee itself and a member of the public to reinstate members Mandy Wesley and Don McNeice. Ms Wesley and Mr. McNeice lost their positions after regional district director Evan Putterill said they had missed three meetings in a row without giving adequate notice, as set out in a bylaw. At the latest regional district meeting, held Oct. 15 in Prince Rupert, administrator Helen Koning said staff was still working on the by-election process, and had not set a date. Mr. Putterill said he expects the by-election will be held late this year or early next year.Ms Koning said she had no idea how much the by-election is expected to cost. The money will be coming from the regional district's administration budget, she said.Port Clements, which will be holding a by-election in early January to replace one council member, has estimated its cost at around $4,000.
