No impaired drivers in Masset area

As of Dec. 30, more than 300 drivers in the Masset area had been checked at roadside stops, but not a single drinking related offence occurred, says the Masset RCMP."We're just ecstatic about that," says Corporal Jim Dehoog. So far, those who had been drinking were with a designated driver, he said. But the real test will be New Year's Eve and officers will be out in force again, he says.In other Masset police news, Atwell Foods was broken into sometime between 1 and 4 am on Dec. 30.Cpl. Dehoog says thief or thieves entered by smashing the glass on the front door. Cigarettes and a till, with no cash in it, were taken and Cpl. Dehoog says the value of items stolen is under $5000.This is the second time in two months the store has been broken into, even though it's right across the street from the RCMP detachment.Fresh snow covered any tracks leading from the scene and police are hoping a member of the public may come forward with information on the crime.
