No plans for old hospital

The Greater Massett Development Corp. is not sure what it will do with the former hospital building now that Northern Health has moved into the brand new health centre between Masset and Old Massett, says chair Trevor Jarvis. Northern Health has pretty much stopped using the old hospital except for the morgue, Mr. Jarvis said, and that should be transferred to the new site soon. The GMDC allowed Northern Health to use the building rent-free, so it isn’t losing any income as a result of the move. Mr. Jarvis said the GMDC board has not made any plans about the future of the old hospital. Like most of the other former military facilities, the building is in poor shape and has some roof issues, he said.
