Nomination deadline approaches

  • Dec. 6, 2010 2:00 p.m.

Friday at 4 pm is the deadline for anyone interested in running for a position on Port Clements village council, or for the Gwaii Trust positions representing Central Graham Island and Moresby Island. Chief electoral officer Heather Nelson-Smith said Monday that it looks like there is quite a bit of interest in the positions, with several nomination packages having been picked up. As of Dec. 6, one person had submitted a nomination for the Port council position, and one person had submitted a nomination for the Central Graham Island Gwaii Trust position. The nomination period opened on Nov. 30 and closes this Friday, Dec. 10, at 4 pm. The Port Clements village office and the Sandspit community office will both be open on Friday until 4 pm to accept nomination documents, Ms Nelson-Smith said. Nominations are open to anyone who is a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, has lived in BC for at least the past six months, and is not disqualified under the Local Government Act. Candidates do not need to live in any particular community in order to run. The Port by-election and the Gwaii Trust elections will be held Jan. 15.
