Many said Seedy Saturday was the primary fun day. Others said I missed “Absolutely nothin!”

After being away nearly three weeks, I came home and got varying answers to, “So, what did we miss?”

Many said Seedy Saturday was the primary fun day. Others said I missed “Absolutely nothin!”

Different perspectives around every corner.

My cats both snubbed me for a while, then melted into my lap for as long as I was willing. They shared their hair, copiously of course it is definitely spring.

Congratulations to our new mayor and councillors, may all your troubles be solvable.

We did succeed in getting our mail-in-vote counted. If you need to be away it’s worth talking to the village office staff at least a month ahead of time so they can order ballots and envelopes, which are not usually printed up very far in advance.

The library now has ‘Playaway Launchpads’ to sign out from the library for three different age levels: three to five, five to seven, and eight to 10. Each comes loaded with games that teach various subjects, such as science, nature or languages. These are a new concept and do NOT connect to the Internet, so they will not ‘suck up’ your Internet hours… that is a direct quote from our wonderful librarian! It’s a tidy package the size of a small lunch kit you will take out for a week at a time.

Knitting club (or crochet, or whatever your chosen handwork is) meets on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. in the library. Bring your project, visit, or teach and share while you create. I suspect quite a few Yarn-Bombing afghans are being worked on, so be prepared for a plethora of red and white! If you need wool to participate in this Canada Day project, there is still wool available. Contact Anne Logan for information.

Book clubbers met April 3 to discuss the book called ‘Rockbound’ by Frank Parker Day. The story takes place in 1928 and is a classic novel about Nova Scotia’s south shore; it has been very well appreciated from all accounts, and gives a really interesting perspective on how difficult life was back in those days.

The Celebration of the Battle of Vimy Ridge is set for April 8, here in Port. It begins with a parade that starts 10:30 a.m. at the Museum and goes to the Cenotaph, followed by an 11 a.m. remembrance. The battle took place in northern France near the end of the First World War. The group will then move to the Community Hall, not the Multiplex as I previously reported. A social with lunch will be served. Call Bunny to help, or for additional info, at 557-4436.

Port Clements Rod and Gun club is hosting the Turkey Shoot on April 9 at 2 p.m… a pleasant way to enjoy the company of like-minded people, and provide food for an Easter celebration.

Silk screening has begun on Wednesdays after school in the Seniors Room at the Multiplex. The first two prints came home with a very satisfied child. The Rec Commission is hosting this program for school-age students.

Soccer practices have begun at the park on Wednesdays.

Good Friday Seniors Luncheon is on April 14, and is a Surf & Turf pre-planned meal for members. If you have not been contacted to bring something specific please bring a salad or dessert I was told.

The doctor days for Port people are on April 10 in Masset, and April 13 in the Port Clements clinic. April schedules are posted now.

The Easter weekend is coming FAST! Your Rec Commission is changing up the Saturday morning event this year. It is going to be based from the seniors room in the Multiplex from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Easter crafting, a hunt (of course) and lots of fun have been arranged. ‘Heads up’ for posters to clarify details.

A special Easter Service at the church, a program and luncheon will be provided at 11 a.m. See you there, and Happy Easter.
