Old Massett has the youngest median age of any community on the islands, at 35.2 years, and Skidegate is the only community which has more females than males. That’s according to the latest information from Statistics Canada, which has just released new data about the age and sex of our population from the 2006 census. Skidegate has the second-youngest median age of the islands communities, at 36.8 years, and also has the largest percentage of population under the age of 15, a full 25 percent. Median ages for the rest of the communities are: Sandspit 45.5 years, Port Clements 43.2 years, Queen Charlotte 41.1 years, Masset 40.7 years, and rural Graham Island 38.5 years. The median age across all of BC is 40.8 years.
