Olga McCormick was declared Port Clements’s “Paramedic of the Year” by the village council Monday night (July 7).

  • Jul. 9, 2008 11:00 a.m.

Council made the decision after reading a letter from the Port ambulance station paramedic chief Terry Mitchell, who said Ms McCormick provides thousands of hours of on-call coverage to the community every year and performs many extra duties to help the station run smoothly and efficiently. Ms McCormick is part of a crew of 10 part-time paramedics and drivers serving Port, Mr. Mitchell wrote. “Over the years, BCAS Station #651 in Port Clements has maintained 100 percent on-call coverage for the community and demonstrated one of the fastest response times for a remote station in BC,” he wrote. “This is no small feat considering what little pay the crew receives and the training and licensing obligations they must continue to maintain.” Council also declared July 1-7 Paramedic Appreciation Week.
