The time is now for input on NaiKun Wind Energy’s plans for a wind farm in Hecate Strait. The project, which could see wind turbines in the strait providing enough electricity for 130,000 homes, is to be reviewed under Canada’s and BC’s environmental assessment acts. Under those acts, a public comment period on NaiKun’s environmental assessment application runs until July 12. Open houses are scheduled in Masset on Monday (June 8) and in Queen Charlotte on Tuesday (June 9) Both are in those communities’ halls, and run from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The open houses include a presentation at 7 pm by representatives from the two levels of government. The application itself is 4,000 pages long and is available at www.eao.gov.bc.ca
