Popular nurse should retire, says health authority

The Northern Health Authority says it wants Port Clements nurse-practitioner Jonna Mattiesing to retire by the end of February, in line with its mandatory retirement policy.
Health services administrator Sue Beckermann said the health authority cannot change its policy to allow the popular Port nurse to continue her job.
"I don't believe we can waive the policy, it has to happen," Ms Beckermann said.
She said pension regulations make it difficult to discuss what might happen next, but there may be an opportunity for Ms Mattiesing to continue working after she retires.
"There are various legal aspects of things," she said. "Our intent is to continue to provide service to Port Clements."
