Port hires new clerk

Port Clements has hired a new clerk-treasurer who will start work later this month.
Dana Schmidt is currently the chief administrative officer for the village of Salmo, said councillor Gerry Johnson, and also spent five years working for the district of Tofino as deputy treasurer.
"She has a very strong background in accounting and comes highly recommended," Mr. Johnson said. "We received a lot of good applications, but she really stood out, I can tell you that for a fact."
Ms Schmidt visited Port Clements over the holiday season and liked what she saw, he added.
Port will also be hiring a new deputy clerk, but will wait until Ms Schmidt settles in to her new job, Mr. Johnson said.
