Port nomination period ends next week

If you're interested in a seat on the Port Clements village council, now is the time to put your name forward.The village will be holding a by-election April 10 to replace Naureen Hughes-McMullon, who resigned in November. The nomination period opened on Tuesday (Feb. 23) and runs until March 5.Administrator Heather Nelson-Smith said nomination packages are available at the village office and, for the first time, on the village's website at www.portclements.caAlmost any adult can run for the position. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, a resident of BC for at least the last six months, and not disqualified from voting or holding office under the Local Government Act. There is no requirement that candidates live within the village boundaries - only voters must be residents or property owners in Port Clements.The person who is elected will serve on council until December 2011.
