by Jane Wilson--Pull out your bright colours and rainbow flags, Masset will be having its first ever pride parade this Sunday.The parade will start in the old rec centre parking lot at 3 pm on August 4.Organizer Natanis Hageman said it might just be a small march, but it's going to happen anyway."I think it's important," she said, "I want to support my daughter who's LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) and my friends who are LGBT. Love is love and they have the same rights as everyone else, and we should be able to celebrate who they are as well."Ms Hageman believes the islands are welcoming to people who are LGBT, "maybe it's not as out there, but in my experience the islands have been a place that .is accepting."There will be a barbeque/ hot dog roast at the beach after the parade, detail available on Facebook at the "Masset Pride Parade and BBQ" page, which recommends "feather boas, bright colors, signs, rainbow flags, bicycles and motorcycles" for the event.
